Introduction to The Møller Centre

 

With its stunning Scandinavian architecture, the unique building is flooded with natural daylight, giving a spacious, calm atmosphere conducive to concentration, learning and results. 

The 23 air-conditioned meeting rooms feature flat-floored meeting room space, and can be equipped with flipcharts, data projector and state of the art AV equipment, including networked PA system, audio and video relay and production, with on-site technical support. The Møller Centre also features a tiered lecture theatre which can seat up to 100. The seventy-one air-conditioned, en-suite bedrooms are of contemporary design and are equipped with large working areas to aid productivity with free Wi-Fi.

 All meeting rooms and bedrooms are available all year round.

Our 71 luxury en-suite bedrooms, including 3 executive suites offer everything required to wind-down at the end of a day – or to prepare for the next.

All bedrooms are contemporary in design with the majority looking out over the grounds of Churchill College – a peaceful haven in today’s modern world. Cambridge city centre, with its vibrant night life, is a short walk away.

All of our bedrooms come with free wifi, air conditioning and the extras you would expect, including  tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar with fresh milk each day, full size ironing board and iron, hairdryer, security safe and multi channel digital plasma TV all come as standard.

The Møller Centre is passionate about cuisine. You can choose from a varied menu of locally sourced, high quality ingredients served in our restaurant or enjoy a more flexible buffet while networking. We aim to provide a range of food that offers a choice to every delegate.

Refreshment areas close to your meeting rooms

It all starts with our refreshment areas, located close to your meeting room and on the go all day. Choose from freshly ground Fair Trade coffee, a wide range of traditional, herbal or fruit teas, soft drinks and fresh orange and apple juices. Feeling peckish? Select from handmade cookies, melt-in-the mouth pastries, cakes or platters of fresh and dried fruits.

Whether your delegates are looking for wholesome comfort food or lighter, healthier, options, you can be assured that your refreshments during the day will help re-energise and re-focus both organisers and delegates.

Healthy, delicious lunches

For lunch there is an extensive buffet of soup, salads, a selection of hot main courses, including fish and vegetarian options, desserts and cheese and biscuits. This can be taken in our restaurant or in the refreshment areas close to your meeting room. We can cater for all dietary requirements.

Dinner - the perfect end to the working day

Our evening meals continue in the same pattern of offering a choice of healthy, freshly cooked menus, which can be designed for your delegates food preferences. We can offer private rooms, fine dining and buffets. Whatever your requirements, the food will be perfectly cooked, delicious and exquistely served. We carry a wide range of wines in house,  and can also access the Churchill College cellars for a selection of fine and vintage wines. 

Before and after dinner delegates can relax with a drink in the Tower Lounge Bar with stunning views over the Cambridge skyline.

History of The Møller Centre

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Centre for Continuing Education was built with a gift of approximately £10 million to Churchill College. The money was donated by the A.P. Møller & Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation, a Danish institution, set up in 1953 by shipping magnate A. P. Møller. The Foundation makes contributions to good causes, especially those involving national heritage, shipping, industry and science.

A.P. Møller’s son, Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller was contacted in 1988 by Churchill College who were looking for funding to build additional postgraduate student accommodation. Maersk was keen to support a development at Churchill College in memory of Winston Churchill and because of the college’s tradition of excellence in the fields of science and engineering.

Mr Møller felt that Denmark’s safety during the Second World War and prosperity afterwards, had depended on Churchill’s personal involvement. When war broke out Maersk ships were turned over to the British authorities to assist in the War effort, and Churchill was swift to ensure the company was paid compensation at the end of the war. Over the years the Foundation has funded many projects in the name of Churchill.

Mr Møller proposed the concept of a ‘Centre for Excellence’ which would include meeting rooms and bedrooms and bring together commerce and education. He believed that with access to the full educational and research resources of Cambridge University the Centre would be able to offer the highest standard of continuing education to international businesses wishing to develop their managerial, executive, and research and development staff.

The Møller Centre was formally opened by Her Majesty Queen Ingrid of Denmark on Friday, 2nd October, 1992.
