King's College is one of the oldest royal foundations in Cambridge. Henry VI laid the foundation stone in April 1441, and it was to have a Provost and 70 poor scholars drawn exclusively from Eton College, the King's other foundation near Windsor.
From the first, the Colleges buildings were intended to be a magnificent display of the power of the royal patronage and the King went to great lengths to ensure that the Chapel, particularly, would be without equal in size and beauty.
Today King's College is renowned for excellence in Scholarship, Research and Teaching and offers students a diverse, tolerant and informal community. This unique blend of College life and surroundings provides the perfect venue for any occasion.
- The view of King's College Chapel and its grounds is one of the most photographed and publicized images, conveniently located in the very heart of historic Cambridge, situated on the River Cam.
- The grade one listed hall is one of the most magnificent and dramatic dining halls of its era.
- Entertainment can be provided by the celebrated King's College choir- Collegium Regale.
- The Saltmarsh Rooms offer views overlooking the front lawn and the World-renowned King's College Chapel.
- We can cater for large events whilst retaining personalised and innovative service.

The Saltmarsh Study is an ideal venue for receptions, buffets and private dinners. | | The Hall | 312 | 300 | 280 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | When daily attendance at Chapel ceased to be obligatory towards the end of the 19th Century, dining together became the most obvious celebration of the communal life of the College. In the sombre, sparely lit Hall, the gowned students would rise as the Fellows entered and walked its length to the High Table. After a Latin Grace, intoned by a Scholar, the Fellows would wine and dine, while the undergraduates would have to be content with a more simple fare. Nowadays the emphasis is on equality and informality, but the old rituals are still retained at the termly 'Feasts'. One of the most magnificent of its kind, the Hall can seat up to 312 people for formal banquets, 300 for a standing buffet, or can be rearranged into a more convivial layout for fewer numbers.
We can also provide musical entertainment for your guests. The dulcet tones of the world-famous Choral Scholars, for example, can accompany your meal. |
